July 6th, 2009

I hate getting bacterial vaginosis. It’s a headache to deal with. I feel miserable, frustrated, and helpless whenever I get BV. And that’s why I had to find some home remedies for bacterial vaginosis. I wanted to know how to cure BV without having to keep going to the doctor every other month for antibiotics. Read More...

I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me I had bacterial vaginosis and she gave me some cream for it (similar to treatment for yeast infections) The directions werent clear on how long to keep it in there, or how soon it would work. When do I know that its cleared up? For some reason I think I should be on antibiotics…will the cream cure it?

The cream is the cure. Once applied, leave it to dissolve. It takes 2 to 3 days to really begin working. The prescription label should indicate how many days the doctor wants you to apply the cream. When you no longer have any discharge, you are cured. Antibiotics are not going to solve this problem because antibiotics kill the good bacteria in addition to the bad and you already have an inbalance in your body. Be sure to eat yogurt (Activia) everyday. It contains multiple types of good bacteria to help balance your system.

did you see ur gyno? look up the cream the doc gave you online, It might have clearer directions online. Otherwise, i kno for yeast infections ya gotta take the meds for 2 weeks so its prolly bout the same. Eat lots of plain yogurt btw cuz it greatly helps the body balance itself out, especially for down there

Don’t ask us, ask your doctor to re-explain.

Taking antibiotics is not something you take a best guess at; if you get it wrong the medicine is wasted and yet more antibiotic resistant bacteria evolve. Perhaps more importantly to you, getting it wrong will mean that your illness lasts longer and may do permanent harm down there.

BV is an imbalance in the normal vaginal flora. Gardnerella vaginalis or several species of anaerobic bacteria are the usual culprits. Typically Flagyl or clindamycin is the prescribed treatment.
